Dancing Creek

Sadly I've been neglecting my blog. Time to start it up again, although probably not as diligently as before. This is one of my most recent works and I had so much fun painting it. I feel I've been in a little bit of a slump lately and this painting seemed to have revived me. I plan on doing a large series based on this. I enjoy rivers and streams so much. This is referenced from hundreds of photos and many walks along the Fendland Trail creek in Banff. I love how the sunlight hits the bank, lights up the bushes and dances in the reflections.

Missing Stampede

I’m happy that ‘Gentle Nudge’ was in the top 15% in December’s Boldbrush contest. I also submitted this piece to the Stampede Art Auction.  But I’m sad to say I didn’t apply for a booth this year at the Calgary Stampede Art Show, I just couldn’t work in the dates. I have such a busy summer, with two weddings (including our daughters’), a solo show and out of country guests, doing a 2 week long show was not feasible. I will miss everyone this year as it’s such a fun event.

Rain Forest Majesty

'Rain Forest Majesty', acrylic 36 x 60. Although I have never been to The Great Bear Rain Forest, it is a place I have wanted to go. I was asked if I could paint a rainforest scene. Having no reference photos, I did a lot of research and watched videos to get a sense of the mood and environment. This painting is an accumulation and my imagination of what I think it would look like. So don't try and find this place...it doesn't exist, except in my mind and on my canvas. Maybe someday I will see for myself, but in the meantime I can pretend and experience it through my work.
