Approaching The Edge

I started this one a while ago,but I got stuck and wasn't sure how I wanted to proceed. An earlier painting I had submitted to the FCA won first place,so I thought maybe I'd try using some of the same elements on this larger painting.  My reference photos from Purcell Mountain Lodge;
